Kali, meaning The Dark One, the Hindu Goddess of 'Kaal' meaning Time and its end ie Death. Mythology has it that her consort, Shiva, had to lie in her path to stop her frenzied dance of destruction. As it is disrespectful to touch another person's body with your feet,(for it is the abode of the Brahman ie God), more so one's husband's, she is shown sticking out her tongue, in shame.
